Inhibition of the incorporating of chloride into the tetracycline molecule.

Bromide and thiocyanate have been shown to be effective inhibitors of the chlorination process leading to chlortetracycline formation by certain strains of Streptomyces aureofaciens Duggar (Gourevitch et al., 1955; Doerschuk, et at., 1956). Sekizawa (1955) reported thiourea, 2-thiouracil, 2-mercaptobenzothiazole, and thioglycolic-f3-aminonaphthalide (thionalide) to inhibit chlorination by this ...

Fate of Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria and Genes during Wastewater Chlorination: Implication for Antibiotic Resistance Control

This study investigated fates of nine antibiotic-resistant bacteria as well as two series of antibiotic resistance genes in wastewater treated by various doses of chlorine (0, 15, 30, 60, 150 and 300 mg Cl2 min/L). The results indicated that chlorination was effective in inactivating antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Most bacteria were inactivated completely at the lowest dose (15 mg Cl2 min/L). B...

Parameters Affecting the Biosynthesis of Gold Nanoparticles Using the Aquatic Extract of Scrophularia striata and their Antibacterial Properties

Green synthesis is a simple, low-cost, non-toxic, environmentally friendly and efficient approach touse. Leaf extract of plants rich in polyphenols, such as flavonoids, is a powerful agent in reducing thesynthesis of gold nanoparticles. The purpose of this study is to investigate the parameters affecting thebiosynthesis of gold nanoparticles using the aqueous extract of Scroph...

The sensitivity of Plasmodium protein synthesis to prokaryotic ribosomal inhibitors.

The prokaryotic protein synthesis inhibitors tetracycline and doxycycline are used in the treatment of malaria, as a way to overcome the problem of drug resistance to more conventional antimalarial drugs. It has been suggested that the antimalarial activity is mediated through the inhibition of the protein synthetic machinery of the mitochondria [1], as suggested by its sensitivity in a wide ra...
